Often referenced as "Bardeau éclater" (exploded shingles) this profile of roofing shake was one of the first wooden roofing profiles. The square profile allows for additional length allows for a longer exposure while maintaining more unexposed surface. The result is the thickest roofing system we offer with nearly 2" of solid hardwood roofing material this offers substantial projectile protection.

Originally wood blocks were split by hand using axes, the end result was an inconsistent and very rustic appearance. In time, the process was mechanized to bolster production enlisting the use of a piston driven blade (Commonly referred to as a Guillotine). Given the inherent danger associated with this production process our team originally refused to produce this product until we were able to find a safer production method.
By using custom tooling we are able to machine strip a face to yield 1 split-face while maintain consistent overall thicknesses. The result is the classic appearance and performance without compromising staff safety.
